The fourth of five heats of the Churchill Public Speaking Competition organised under the auspices of the Colchester & Essex branch was held at Colchester County High School for Girls, Colchester, on 15 January 2019. Five teams competed in the event, representing four schools in the area.
The adjudicators, university lecturer, Jane Weller, artist, lecturer and writer, Christopher Meigh-Andrews and English examiner and teacher, Gary Cousins, heaped praise on all the participants for their performances before announcing the prize-winners, who each received a Churchill crown from organizer, James Scruby. The winning team was Colchester Royal Grammar School Team 2 with the hosts as runners-up. Both progress to the branch final.
The other schools represented were The Philip Morant School and College and St Mary’s School, Colchester. Every participant received a certificate for having taken part, presented by branch chair, Brian Cooke.
Grateful thanks are due to the Girls High School for their generous hosting of the event, attended by around fifty people including parents and teachers.
