Our workshops comprise of a range of oracy activities that aim to boost knowledge and confidence in the ESU’s four key oracy skillsets: expression & delivery; reasoning & evidence; organisation & prioritisation and listening & response. Activities range from scaffolded written and spoken work for preparing speeches, to fun interactive and kinaesthetic games.
This series of workshops has been developed specifically for KS2 to KS4. With clear links to the national curriculum spoken language requirements, they provide young people with an excellent foundation in oracy which can be directly embedded into classroom activity.
Schools can request any of the workshops offered below as two and a half hour standalone sessions or can combine two or more for a full-day or multi-day programme of activity leading to an ESU event day, supporting your pupils to showcase their new skills and put oracy on the map in your school.
The chart below is a rough guide on how our workshop levels match up to year groups and age-related expectations:
Oracy Through Debate Workshops
Our Debate workshops provide students with plenty of opportunities to use their voice, to craft arguments based on reasoning and evidence, and – just as importantly – to listen! This workshop series is developed to provide students with an excellent foundation in oracy which can be directly translated into classroom activity.
Oracy Through Public Speaking Workshops
With links across the curriculum, our Public Speaking workshops provide schools with a fun and practical opportunity to get all students talking in front of an audience. These workshops guide learners to becoming confident and engaging speakers through carefully scaffolded and interactive activities.
