Jill Edwards – an unscripted life

A longstanding and very active member of our branch, Jill needed no introduction to her audience.

Educated at Roedean and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, she is a contemporary of Dame Judi Dench and Vanessa Redgrave, and over the years has acquired an extraordinary knowledge of the world of drama and the theatre, which she shared with us. Many well-known actors and actresses remain her friends.

Jill has taught speech and drama in schools, including vitally important coaching in elocution and interview techniques and has also helped with remedial reading – perhaps ideas here for our own members to explore?

Her work continued for a few years in Fiji, where her engineer husband Jack, our former Ouse Valley Chairman, was working – in between constructing the M4 and the M6 at home!

In recent years Jill has worked for Relate as a marriage guidance counsellor. Over a ten-year period, she discovered that responsibility for the finances in a marriage has largely passed from husband to wife!

Unscripted or not, we were fascinated by a vivid and often amusing account of a life full of interest, variety and importance, and thanked Jill very much for sharing it with us.
