Taunton & Somerset

Welcome to the Taunton & District branch

As the new Chairman of the Taunton and District branch I am delighted to offer a welcome and to introduce a virtual re-launch of the branch itself. The 2017 recently-appointed committee has seen major changes due to death and retirement, therefore gaining fresh and enthusiastic new blood. Meet the committee here.

We meet on a monthly basis in two locations, splitting the season between Somerset County Cricket Ground in Taunton and Oake Manor Golf Club, near Bradford-on-Tone. Members gather for morning meetings which start with a talk on topics of varied interest followed by lunch, and guests are always welcome.

The annual national ESU Public Speaking Competition for schools is an important part of our activity. The local round is held in the early part of the year, usually in Taunton. Our involvement in the development of the ESU Discover Your Voice programme, which is designed to help the communication skills of youngsters, is also on the agenda.

Whilst a welcome is always available at a local level to everyone interested in the English-Speaking Union’s charitable activities, we also encourage members, when in London, to make use of the delightful facilities of Dartmouth House in London which are open to all members.

I look forward to meeting you.

Charles Scott
