The English-Speaking Union is an international charity founded in 1918 to promote "international understanding and friendship through the use of the English language."That has never been so important and never so possible. The world desperately needs international understanding and the reach of English provides a way of achieving it.

In February, an international conference was held in New Delhi, India. Organised by the ESU in collaboration with the British Council, this two-day event, held at the British Council's offices, was deemed to be one of the ESU's most successful conferences.
