THE RT HON BARONESS D’SOUZA, Former Lord Speaker of the House of Lords

Our speaker has had a distinguished career in science – anthropology, brain chemistry and human nutrition. She has, in addition, a wide range of other interests – human rights, development, gender equality. She was created a Life Peer in 2004 and sat as a crossbencher in the House of Lords, being elected Lord Speaker for 5 years from 2011 to 2016.    Baroness D’Souza is therefore well qualified to speak about the composition of the Lords, its value and possible limitations, its relationship with the Commons and how it might change in the future.

Branch social activities are arranged in order to raise funds for, and promote an awareness of, our educational activities in schools.
