Join us at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 16 February on Zoom for an evening with distinguished Egyptologist Professor Toby Wilkinson who will be talking to John Raine about his most recent book A World Beneath the Sands and his career as an Egyptologist.
Professor Toby Wilkinson is an internationally acclaimed Egyptologist and prize-winning author of twelve books translated into as many languages and lectures around the world on Egyptian history, ancient and modern. With a first class degree and PhD in Egyptology from the University of Cambridge, Toby is a Bye-Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and the Royal Historical Society, and is a member of the international editorial board of The Journal of Egyptian History. Toby was appointed Vice Chancellor of Fiji National University in 2020, and before this was Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Lincoln.
John Raine CMG OBE is member of the Lincolnshire Committee of the ESU. Like Toby, he has a long professional connection with the Middle East. He served as an Arabist in the UK Diplomatic Service for over 30 years in several Middle Eastern countries until his retirement in 2017. He is currently Senior Adviser at the international Institute of Strategic Studies in London where he specialises on the Middle East.
