The National Mooting Competition is the largest and oldest of its kind in the country, receiving entries from teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Founded in 1972 as the Observer Moot, it has a tradition of attracting the very best legal brains as its judges and producing the next generation of them from its competitors.

The current champions are the University of Glasgow, represented by Francesca Ruddy and Katherine Docherty. Their moot co-ordinator, mark Godfrey, will act as the National Adjudicator for the 2011/12 competition.

After the preliminary rounds, the competition moves to Lonson, with theSemi-Final in Dartmouth House, and the Final in the Royal Courts of Justice, where this years winners will be decided. The winning team receives the prestigious Silver Mace, £1,000 each and £1,000 for their institution, while the runners-up receive the Scarman Shield, £750 each and £500 for their institution. The remaining semi-finalists will each receive£250. Prize money is generously provided by Essex Court Chambers.

To enter, fill in the online form. Entries are not valid until a moot problem has been submitted and payment received. The problem must be original work, and not have been used in competition in previous years. From this list of problems the moots for next year will be selected.
