On 28 July, the ESU welcomed Ed Hicks; Head of Film, Television and Radio at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), to give a Dartmouth House Lunch on modern day film-making.
Over coffee, following a two-course lunch, Ed addressed ESU members, alumni and their guests on the difficulties of film-making in the current economic climate. He spoke of the challenges that await newly graduated actors entering the notoriously competitive film industry; the budgetary concerns facing drama schools training the next generation of actors.
Ed also shared some well-known movie mistakes and “tricks of the trade” including perspective and other visual cheats, that directors use in a variety of movie blockbusters including The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.
