History of the Alumni Association

Since its humble beginnings in 1935, and in its more recent developments, the ESU Alumni Programme has established and continues to maintain strong links between former scholars and the ESU. It allows colleagues and friends who shared common experiences during their time on ESU scholarships to remain in touch with each other. ESU Alumni come from all walks of life and many go on to great things. Our wide range of programmes has resulted in alumni who include politicians, former Prime Minister the Rt Hon Sir Edward Heath KG OM, the Rt Hon Michael Howard MP and the Rt Hon Charles Kennedy MP.

Notable Alumni

Many alumni have been extremely successful in the business world including Sir Stuart Hampson (former Chairman, John Lewis Partnership), Sir John Bond (Chairman, Vodafone Group) and Peter Ellwood CBE (Chairman, ICI) and in the entertainment world we include the violinists Tasmin Little and Nigel Kennedy. Every scholar of the ESU becomes an alumnus at the end of their programme, including all seminars and competitions. Indeed our own Chairman, The Rt Hon Lord Hunt of Wirral is an alumnus.
