Support Our Work

The ESU runs ground-breaking educational programmes that transform the lives of young people. We help young people to ‘discover their voices’ – to engage with the world and to talk more confidently, to formulate and organise their ideas more effectively and, just as importantly, to listen. The ESU is particularly committed to improving educational progress in state schools, and in deprived areas of England and Wales, to enhance life opportunities and increase social mobility.

Helping young people to increase their spoken language, listening, self-confidence, analytical and inter-personal skills will create a stronger generation of confident communicators, critical thinkers and empowered citizens.

Charitable donations are vital in helping us to fund this work, whether that be through membership, individual giving or corporate sponsorship. Donations enable us to open up our programmes to those who need our help the most. There are a number of ways that you can help:

You can donate today to help fund our activities and programmes of work which empower young people to discover their voices.

Your donation could support a state school to participate in one of our competitions (Schools' Mace, UK Public Speaking Competition or Performing Shakespeare), fund training for a group of teachers to deliver our newest programme, Discover Debating, or it could go towards a bursary for a young person to attend our highly effective Debate Academy.

For the last 100 years, the English-Speaking Union has benefited from the foresight of legacy donors whose gifts, both large and small, have supported us in our mission to enable people to communicate more effectively, with English as a unifying language.

By remembering us in your will, you can play a part in shaping the future of our charity by supporting tomorrow’s generation of confident communicators.

We also offer corporate sponsorship opportunities; these range from sponsoring a national competition, to funding a series of school workshops within your local community.

The oracy skills we teach young people enable them to prepare for future training and job opportunities and are relevant to every industry and workplace. Find out how your organisation can make a difference to tomorrow's workers by getting in touch today.
