DESCRIPTION:The English-Speaking Union invites you to join us at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe for the Grand Final of the ESU Performing Shakespeare Competition on Thursday\, 12 June! \nThe Performing Shakespeare Competition is a chance for schools across the country to practice their oracy and drama skills. Schools have been competing in heats across the country to secure a place in the grand final at the San Wanamaker Playhouse. \nPlease note\, if you are attending as an audience member\, you consent to photos/videos being shared on our social media. If you are a school group and would like to attend with students. Please email events@esu.org with the number of tickets you would like\, and we will do our best to accommodate you. \nAudience members are permitted to arrive from 12.40 before moving into the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at 12.50 in preparation for the performances to begin at 1pm.  For those who are unable to attend in person\, the event will be live-streamed on our YouTube channel via the link here.

DESCRIPTION:The prestigious ESU-Churchill Public Speaking Competition\, is the largest such contest in England and Wales. The different roles allow students to practice and excel in different skill sets\, and the competition’s unique format\, which pairs the speaker from one school with the chair and questioner of another\, encourages quick thinking and relationship building.  \nOver 300 teams have competed over the past six months to reach the finals at the ESU’s headquarters\, Dartmouth House.  \nSeeing the passion\, talent and enthusiasm of these young speakers is always a highlight of our calendar – this is a showcase for the very best of speaking\, chairing\, and questioning in the UK.   \nTickets are limited\, so we urge people to book quickly.  \nIf you are unable to attend in person\, but would still like to attend you can watch the livestream via our YouTube channel here.

DESCRIPTION:The English-Speaking Union welcomes you to the Grand Final of the ESU Schools’ Mace debating competition\, taking place on Thursday\, 30 April at Dartmouth House\, London.  \nGuests are welcome to join us from 9am ready for the semi-finals to begin at 9.45am.  \nLight refreshments will be provided throughout the day; however\, we advise everybody to bring a packed lunch or to buy lunch from one of the nearby shops or cafes. Our staff will be on hand to offer directions on the day.   \nAttendees can enjoy the debates throughout the day\, as well as having the chance to meet and network with other guests.. At the end of the day\, the winning team will be awarded the Mace. General feedback will be offered to competing teams throughout by our expert judging panels. Tickets are limited\, so we urge everyone to register quickly.  \nIf you cannot attend in person but still want to watch\, you can watch on our YouTube channel here!

DESCRIPTION:The Salisbury Branch is joined by Gary Price for a lecture on his career and the Salisbury Cathedral. \nOverview: \nGary Price started work at Salisbury Cathedral in 1986 as a stone sawyer\, four years later he became Head of Stone Sawyer. In 2012 he became Clerk of Works and has been instrumental in launching the Sponsor a Stone Scheme. DESCRIPTION:Join the Salisbury Branch of the ESU for a talk by Caroline de Guitaut\, surveyor of the King’s Works of Art at the Royal Collection Trust. \nCaroline de Guitaut\, surveyor of The King’s Works of Art at Royal Collection Trust\, will be joining the Salisbury Branch to give a lecture on the Carl Fabergé collection.  Under her care is a collection of over 700\,000 works of art\, located in 15 royal residences which includes furniture\, sculpture\, metalwork\, ceramics\, textiles\, arms and armour and jewellery including the Crown Jewels. \nThis talk will explore how the collection was formed through six successive generations of the Royal Family from Queen Victoria to King Charles III.
