Oracy Through Debate Workshops - Interactive debate workshops delivered by experts

Oracy Through Debate Workshops

The ESU’s Oracy Through Debate workshops are available for learners in Key Stages 2-5, providing oracy skills development opportunities tailored to age, ability and school requirements.

We believe debating is for everyone – and that it can be an excellent way to get more meaningful talk embedded in all classrooms.

Debate doesn’t just mean formal competitive debate (although we do offer support with this), but a more informal, classroom-based approach to discussing topics, themes and other curriculum areas. Our Oracy Through Debate workshops provide students with plenty of opportunities to use their voice, to craft arguments based on reasoning and evidence, and – just as importantly – to listen!

We have three workshops available for each age group – Beginner (Years 5-6); Intermediate (Years 7-8) and Advanced (Years 9-10). Each workshop in each group builds on the one before, or can be offered as a stand-alone option. Schools buying all three receive a detailed programme of activity leading to a capstone facilitated debate day, providing excellent practice for students wanting to explore formal debate competitions or an opportunity to showcase your oracy provision within and outside of your school

Workshop length: workshops last 2.5 hours (but multiple options can be combined to create a full-day programme)

Delivery: ESU oracy experts

Pricing: From £325 for half-day or £900 for a series of three.
