West Sussex ESU-Churchill Public Speaking Competition

We were delighted to be able to welcome our 6 teams in person to the Sherbourne Room in the Bishop’s Palace for this year’s West Sussex finals in Chichester on 31 January. The previous rounds were on Zoom and it’s never easy.  So a big thank you and well done to the judges for handling it so well.

Three of the teams go forward to the regional finals and they are

Seaford College Team 1 (winners, pictures: Dylan, Amy, Sophia); the runners-up were Churcher’s College Team 2 and Seaford College Team 2.

The individual team winners were:

Chair                         Amy, Seaford College Team 1

Questioner              Katie, Churcher’s College Team 2

Guest Speaker       Emily, Seaford College Team 2

Best Personality    Iona, Bishop Luffa Team 1

The subjects chosen to give us all an interesting and thought-provoking afternoon were – ‘Social Media does more harm than Good’ (winning speaker); ‘Electronic Messaging is destroying true friendship’; ‘What is a Legacy?’; ‘Are we growing into an ever more angry Society?’; ‘Learning Philosophy is as valuable as Learning Mathematics’; and ‘Is Gold better than God?’
