DESCRIPTION:Global Wars and Chaos – How did we Get Here and What’s the Solution?\n  \nJoin us for our annual Evelyn Wrench Lecture 2025\, delivered by Field Marshal The Lord Richards of Herstmonceux GCB CBE DSO DL.  \nGeneral The Lord Richards of Herstmonceux is a retired senior officer of the British Army and a distinguished member of the House of Lords.  Throughout a notable military career spanning four decades\, he commanded British and NATO forces in high-profile operations\, including in East Timor\, Sierra Leone\, and Afghanistan. \nRising to the highest professional rank in the British Army\, he served as Chief of the General Staff from 2009 and subsequently as Chief of the Defence Staff\, the professional head of the UK Armed Forces\, from 2010 to 2013. Elevated to the peerage upon retirement\, Lord Richards now sits as a Crossbench life peer in the House of Lords\, offering insight on defence and international affairs. \nThis event will raise funds for our essential charitable work. SUMMARY:The ESU International Public Speaking Competition Grand Final 2025
DESCRIPTION:The International Public Speaking Competition (IPSC) is the world’s largest competition of its kind. Bringing together participants\, aged 16-20\, from over 40 countries for a week of cultural exchange and competition\, the IPSC is one of the ESU’s flagship programmes. \nThe Grand Final on Friday\, 16 May will take place at the famous Royal Institution.  The very best young performers will deliver their speeches\, following on from the competition heats held earlier in the week.  The theme for National Competitions and the Grand Final for 2025 is: “We know what we are\, but not what we may be.” – William Shakespeare \nIf you are unable to attend our Grand Final in person\, but would still like to watch\, you can do so on our YouTube channel here!  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Salisbury Branch is joined by Gary Price for a lecture on his career and the Salisbury Cathedral. \nOverview: \nGary Price started work at Salisbury Cathedral in 1986 as a stone sawyer\, four years later he became Head of Stone Sawyer. In 2012 he became Clerk of Works and has been instrumental in launching the Sponsor a Stone Scheme. DESCRIPTION:Join the Salisbury Branch of the ESU for a talk by Caroline de Guitaut\, surveyor of the King’s Works of Art at the Royal Collection Trust. \nCaroline de Guitaut\, surveyor of The King’s Works of Art at Royal Collection Trust\, will be joining the Salisbury Branch to give a lecture on the Carl Fabergé collection.  Under her care is a collection of over 700\,000 works of art\, located in 15 royal residences which includes furniture\, sculpture\, metalwork\, ceramics\, textiles\, arms and armour and jewellery including the Crown Jewels. \nThis talk will explore how the collection was formed through six successive generations of the Royal Family from Queen Victoria to King Charles III.
