In 2021 Salisbury Civic Society asked Paul Hooley to unveil a Blue Plaque at the former home of Wolfe Frank in Mere, Wiltshire. Salisbury and Wiltshire branch will be joined by Paul Hooley to discuss Wolfe Frank as part of their lecture series.
Involved in proceedings from the start of the Nuremberg war crimes trials, Wolfe Frank interpreted the judge’s opening statements and announced the sentences to the Nazi war criminals. From manuscripts found 25 years following his death, we will learn more about this unique man – engineer, resistance worker, ‘an enemy of Germany’, a former Captain in the British Army, playboy, risk taker and a man of immense courage, integrity, ability and good manners. Strikingly handsome he married five times. Post Nuremberg he single-handedly tracked down the ‘most wanted’ Nazi criminals.
