The English-Speaking Union is delighted to invite members, alumni and their guests to attend this year’s Evelyn Wrench Lecture and Dinner.
The evening will begin with a drinks reception, followed by our annual lecture, delivered by Lord Patten, former Governor of Hong Kong and until recently Chancellor of the University of Oxford. A three-course dinner will follow the lecture.
Sir Evelyn Wrench founded the ESU in 1918. In his memory, this annual lecture welcomes distinguished speakers to reflect on the ESU’s founding principles of international friendship, dialogue and understanding in the English language, and the charity’s work to develop young people’s oracy skills.
We will also be announcing the winners of our ESU-Rutland Teacher Award and our Oracy Culture Award, celebrating those teachers and schools working hard to make speaking and listening skills a priority.
The ticket price includes a welcome drink and canapés, the lecture and a three-course dinner. Guests are welcome to arrive from 6.15pm for a prompt start at 6.30pm.
