The ESU Churchill Public Speaking Competition Wales National Final takes place on 5th March 2020, at Ty Hywel. Please book a ticket to watch and support the competitors in the Wales area. Come and see our work in action as one of the oldest continuously running public speaking competitions ….
The competition involves two teams of three (speaker, chair and questioner) competing against each other in front of an audience of supporters. The speaker talks on a pre-agreed topic, the questioner challenges the speaker on points within their speech and the chair manages the proceedings and questions from the audience. The competition is designed for Key Stage 3 & 4 students, with around 400 teams entering each year. Students have proved the power of their speech writing and presenting skills, have had their knowledge of topical issues tested, and demonstrated the ability to think on their feet.
The opening speech will be given by Arwyn Jones, Director of Communications at the Welsh Assembly.
Judges: Louis Preston, Richard Harris and Roy Noble. Prizes to be presented by Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Morfudd Meredith, Derek Morgan OBE, DL and Captain Sir Norman Lloyd-Edwards.
The passion and talent of these young speakers are always a highlight of our educational calendar – with a range of topics under discussion, this is bound to be an event to make you think.
