About us
Welcome to the Chester Branch of the English-Speaking Union!
The Roman city of Chester was founded in 79 AD and is one of the best preserved walled cities in Britain. As well as its Roman and medieval buildings it boasts excellent shopping facilities so has something for everyone!
As local members of the ESU we aim through our events to support its core educational programmes: these include the UK Public Speaking Competition, Schools Mace and Performing Shakespeare. A particular focus of the ESU at present is on enabling maintained schools to run mentor-led Discover Your Voice workshops which train both teachers and children in public speaking and debating skills.
We are always looking for people to be involved in these and many other programmes as organisers, mentors or adjudicators.
So, if you are passionate about helping to equip the young with the life skills and confidence they so need in today’s world, please get in touch. You will be making a real difference to your local community, as well as joining a worldwide organisation dedicated to improving the life chances of young people everywhere.
We look forward to welcoming you to our branch!
