The ESU has been working with Key Stage 2 students since the DYV programme started in 2004.
Speaking confidently is a key skill, and it is best to start young. We pick topics for session that young people can relate to:
- school uniform
- TVs or computers in bedrooms
- the dangers of fatty foods
We use a range of simple and effective games which help every student to say how and why they feel this way. This step-by-step approach teaches pupils to see the link between their feelings and expressing themselves to a group. The sessions are valuable for developing the contributions of less confident students. As well as learning to speak effectively students start to think about how to relate to different groups of people, the difference between logical and emotional arguments and critical thinking skills. At the ESU we believe that everyone from everywhere, should have the chance to discover their voice, through a formal speech or just getting better at giving their opinion - this programme helps the youngest of students to find their confidence. We are also available to work with teachers on ideas for incorporating speech and debate into all lessons.Prices
