American Memorial Chapel Travel Grant
Applications for the 2012 grant will be available from April next year with interviews in early July.
The American Memorial Chapel Travel Grant gives a member of the clergy the exciting opportunity to undertake a tour of the USA for approximately four weeks. The award enables clergy of all denominations to spend that time touring the USA with the aim of fostering understanding and the exchange of ideas. The subjects explored by past recipients have been varied and reports written by them can be found below.
The award is offered to a member of the clergy from any denomination of the church. The £1800 grant is usually given to an individual, however it can be divided between two applicants at the discretion of the interviewing panel.
2011 Grant
The 2011 American Memorial Chapel Travel Grant has been awarded to the Reverend Dr Graeme Court from Thamesside and Mapledurham, Reading. His research is entitled ‘An Affair to Remember: Churches in Postmodern Dialogues.’ Having studied churches that claim to engage within postmodern cultures in the UK for the past five years, this project will compare and contrast these findings with an analysis of similar churches in the north-eastern states of the USA, asking whether these churches can remain authentically Christian whilst inhabiting a changing cultural context.
2010 Grant
The 2010 Grant was awarded to The Reverend David de Verny from Swineshead, near Boston, Lincolnshire. David researched migrant workers and how the different churches and denominations reach out to them within their communities.
