Debating in the House of Lords

House of Lords Chamber Events

Each year the House of Lords opens its door to citizens from all walks of life, enabling them to engage in a lively debate about important social and political questions. The ESU has partnered with the House of Lords to deliver the debate model and training for the speakers.

Programmes and participates vary, with previous debates featuring state school students from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, members of the University of the Third Age, cadets and veterans, UK Youth representatives and students from a number of UK universities.

Debate topics have included How to Look After the Vulnerable, The Legacy of the Great War, Digital Democracy and Diversity in Parliament. This year’s topic is Free Speech.

All Rise!
