Matt and Alice on This Morning
This article was published on Sunday 18 December 2011Alice and Matt, members of the ESU’s England World Schools team, debated school uniforms on ITV's This Morning.
The issue is a live one at the moment with the government worried about unruly behaviour and the debate raging about the best way to tackle this.
Matt, a student at St Francis Xavier's College in Liverpool and Alice, a student at Parrs Wood High School in Manchester, are both accomplished debaters and have taken part in many ESU and other competitions over the years.
In an on-air, live debate with hosts Eamon Holmes and Ruth Langsford, Matt was arguing for the benefit of school uniforms, how they help with discipline and prepare young people mentally for the working environment of school with Alice taking the other side that uniform is restrictive and unnecessary. Eamonn and Ruth Langsford were impressed with how articulate both Matt and Alice were.
Both Matt and Alice will be two of the four person team, also including Greg and Ashkay, who will represent England at the World Schools Debating Championship over the summer. If school uniform comes up then we’re set.
Best of luck to all of them and well done to Matt and Alice on a great interview.
